The purpose of this section is to introduce the geography of England and Farnley - to show where all the action was.
But first, how to use the maps. At the bottom right of each map is a pan and zoom control. The plus sign zooms in, the minus sign zooms back out. Dragging across the map moves it. At the bottom left are Map/Satellite buttons. These give the streets or an actual ariel photograph of the area shown. There is a "reset map" link to take the map back to its starting position in case you get lost in your panning and zooming.
Click three times on the Plus sign at the bottom right of the map, pausing between clicks to let the web site catch up and you will now see Sheffield (later home of Philip, 1949-1981) 40 miles south of Leeds, half way to the bottom of the map, and Doncaster (birthplace of Peter, 1939) a little to the right and up from Sheffield.
Click the plus sign four more times and to the left of center at the bottom of the map you will see Birstall where the earliest birth records are from, and above that Drighlington close to Adwalton where Titus (the first Schofield we know about) lived.
The distance from Drighlington to Leeds is about five miles and the five square miles to the north east of this line encompasses just about all of the action for the first EIGHT generations of this history.
Click the plus sign twice more and you will see New Farnley where Maud's parents lived and above and to the right is Farnley (commonly referred to as Old Farnley) where Philip's parents lived
